2014 Dues Invoices

Delinquency - Fourteenth Judicial District Bar Dues Only

Members are past due as of the date on their printed invoice. Most active members for 2014-2015 have a due date of Friday, October 31, 2014. Any payment postmarked by Monday November 3 will be posted without a service charge. Payments sent or made online after November 3 should include the $15 service charge.

Before a member is reported to the NC State Bar as delinquent, that member will receive multiple email reminders and another printed invoice, followed by a two-year bill for the subsequent fiscal year. That two-year bill is essentially a final notice. Those who remain unpaid or unresolved by ten days past the one-year anniversary of a bill's printing, are then reported to the NC State Bar. The NCSB typically issues a Notice to Show Cause to each individual who remains over one year past due in the payment of their local Judicial District Bar dues.

ABOUT BAR DUES

Fourteenth Judicial District Bar

$75 annual dues to the Fourteenth Judicial District Bar are invoiced to all known members in August for each fiscal year, which runs July 1 - June 30. The 2013-2014 invoices went out between July 5 and August 1. They are considered delinquent as of October 11, 2013.

Durham County Bar Association and YLD

Voluntary dues to the DCBA are payable upon a member's decision to join, or before their attendance at a Bar luncheon. Luncheons run September to May. Those who have been licensed in the current calendar year (2013) may join for $60. All others owe $125. Member benefits (in addition to the luncheons) include the opportunity to earn 13 CLE hours, including three in the specialty areas, i.e. Substance Abuse/Mental Health and Ethics/Professional Responsibility, at no cost other than the $3/hour NCSB CLE fee.

A full schedule of events to which DCBA members are entitled to attend is available at http://www.durhambar.org/dcba

Young Lawyers Division

Attorneys who have been in practice less than 5 years or are under age 30, may also elect to join the Young Lawyer's Division. Unlike the other specialty Bars, all YLD members must FIRST join the DCBA, in order to join the YLD.  This is beause the YLD receives financial support from the DCBA that exceeds simply passing through the membership dues which are paid.

Durham Bar Foundation

All members of the DCBA and Fourteenth JDB are considered members of the Foundation. The Foundation's mandate is to provide merit awards to Law students who have ties to Durham county.

Governance

The three organizations are governed by a Joint Board of Directors and Joint Officers. During their service term, all officers and directors are required to be paid members of the DCBA. The Board is elected at The Annual Meeting and Luncheon of the Fourteenth, which takes place in June of each year. The other gathering opportunity to which all members of the Fourteenth are invited is the Holiday Party, which takes place, obviously, in December.
