Criminal Defense Bar

Any criminal defense attorney practicing in Durham County is welcome to become a member of the Criminal Defense Bar.

The Criminal Defense Bar is an organization dedicated to the professional improvement of its members and is committed to providing support and informative programming for our members. Above all, as a professional group, we are investing in each individual attorney’s professional growth, which leads to  providing quality, zealous advocacy for our clients both inside and outside of the courtroom.

The Criminal Defense Bar meets the 1st Thursday of each month at the Blue Coffee Café in Downtown Durham. The meeting time is 5:30-6:30 p.m. New attorneys are welcome to simply show up.

Additionally, a group of our attorneys have begun to gather the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month at 12:30-1:30 p.m. for a Roundtable Discussion—a time when attorneys can bring specific cases and strategize the best approach. We ask that attorneys bring their own lunch to this meeting, which is located in the 2nd floor conference room of the Bull City Business Center.

There are no required dues to become a member of the Durham Criminal Defense Bar, because we feel that it is important that cost not be a factor prohibiting attorneys from gaining the benefit of the meetings, etc. However, at each meeting, we accept any and all donations to help defray the costs of the organization.

As mentioned above, the DCDB meets on a monthly basis. Each meeting consists of an informative topic relevant to the practice of criminal defense, and how individual attorneys can better serve their clientele. One of the items “in the works” right now is a Durham-oriented CLE event, where attending attorneys could receive 13 hours CLE credit for an incredibly low price. More information about this event will be advertised as it is available.

Our President is John Fitzpatrick.
